Born into a bourgeois family in Provence, Paul Cézanne first undertakes law studies before focusing on painting.
Upon moving to Paris, he meets Monet, Renoir, Pissaro and Sisley and becomes a member of the impressionist movement.
But Cézanne’s work, informed by his failures, goes beyond impressionism and is probably the most misunderstood and controversial to this day.
