Synopsis

On the surface of the planet, coral reefs provide effective protection against swells and reduce coastal erosion.

More than a million animal and plant species are associated with them, and it is estimated that they are home to one-third of known marine species.

In French Polynesia, they are important for the island populations as the main source of food comes from these coral reefs.
