Synopsis

Yonaguni is one of the smallest inhabited islands and the most western point of Japan’s archipelago, much closer to Taiwan than Tokyo.

Its remoteness gives the place a singular dimension embodied in a dramatic past as well as in traditions which have all but vanished in the major Northern islands. One can find there an endemic species of small horses or puzzling underwater stone structures deemed the remains of an antic suken city by some people.

Between legend and reality, tiny Yonaguni offers diverse facets, the most intriguing one being the discovery of a Japan caught in a time warp.
