A legacy of crime

Synopsis

Chicago is plagued by gang wars as rival factions battle for territory. In deprived neighborhoods abandoned by the authorities, hopeless youngsters grow up surrounded by violence, making life impossible for the locals while mothers mourn their dead.

The police seem powerless. Even in prison, gang warfare continues, as can be seen from footage shot in America's largest prison, the Cook County Jail.

Amid despair, some locals are finding ways to combat this legacy of crime and reclaim their communities.
